Hub Director: George Brown

Welcome to the Dallas Hub at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport! DFW Airport serves as the southwestern hub of American Flight Airways operations. Flights to destinations in the US, Latin America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia originate from the DFW Hub. AFA flights originate out of terminal B at DFW. DFW Airport is the second largest in the United States and third largest in the world. The airport has 3 control towers (east, west, and center) which provide coverage for the airport's 5 north-south parallel runways and 2 diagonal runways. Dallas was AFA's 3rd largest superhub beginning operations in 1998 and continues to be a productive hub for American Flight Airways southwestern operations.

June 2010 Hub Report
Posted by Joe Pieper on June 7, 2010 at 10:28 PM MDT

AFA Dallas Hub – Monthly Report, June 2010

Change of Hub Director
As most of the Dallas crew will be aware, that after 2 years as Hub Director, Joe Pieper has stepped down.

As a result, I have been appointed to the position as Hub Director from the position of Dallas Chief Pilot. This change-over occurred on July 1st 2010 although Joe will be assisting with Hub admin matters until my return from vacation on August 4th 2010.

My thanks to Joe for all the effort he has put into the Dallas Hub over the last two years or so. Joe will be remaining on the Dallas roster and will no doubt be helping me settle into the HD role.

Vacancy – Dallas Chief Pilot
Applications are sought suitably qualified and motivated pilots from the Dallas roster, to fill the position of Chief Pilot which is now vacant.

The pre-requisites for the position are:

• Be an active participant in the APG forums.
• Fly actively on VATSIM, or be willing to learn to fly on-line.
• No inactivity in your flight book in the past 6 months.
• Fly at least one to two on-line APG events a month.
• Have been with the airline for over 3 months

A full job description and application details has been posted on the forums.

Renewed Dallas focus
My focus for the Dallas Hub will be on VATSIM, on-line group flying, the AFA Forums and charters. If Dallas pilots want to fly a specific route just let me know and I will set it up.

For those who like on-line group flights, the Latin America and Australia Hub have a group fly-in nearly every week. The flights are ideally timed to encourage participation from all hubs, and I would encourage Dallas pilots to try this relaxed, friendly environment in which to fly. As usual the AFA relaxed PIREP reporting applies to these flights. As a former member of the Australia Hub, I found these flights an excellent way to meet members of other Hubs as all APG VATSIM pilots are welcome! These are good opportunities for pilots to get started flying on VATSIM – and where pilots can relax and learn from each other in a casual environment with no stress!

Details of International on-line flights will be posted of the Dallas Hub main page.

Awards
There will be two awards given each month. The Pilot-of-the-month and a Rookie-of-the-month. The latter award is meant to encourage the new starters in the Hub to strive for and achieve a goal, also encouraging them to log their first flight, then a second and so on. The ROM will only be available for pilots in their first month with the Dallas Hub.

Pilot-Of-The-Month
The POM award fore the month of June is awarded to John Guidry who flew over 88 hours during the month, and was by far the most active flyer for that period. Congratulations, John.

Rookie-Of-The-Month
The inaugural Dallas Rookie-of-the-month goes to AFA 3919 Lucas Mackey. Lucas has logged 19 flights, and nearly 17 hours since joining us on June 21st 2010. Congratulations, Lucas.

Hub Stats for June
Total flights: 116
Total Hours: 347
VATSIM Hours: 58

Have a great month flying and remember, every flight you walk away from was a good one!
