American Flight Airways Virtual Airlines was established on November 17, 1996 by John Valencia and Enrique Garcia-Sayan, two virtual pilots who met from Tradewinds Caribbean Airlines. Originally AFA had 2 hubs which were located at Pontiac, MI and Lima, Peru. During the
early years of AFA from November, 1996 and throughout 1997 AFA primarily flew
commuter flights and a few domestic and International flights. In September 1997,
AFA management decided to expand its services and established new superhubs in Detroit, MI and Atlanta, GA which resulted in
substantial growth for the virtual airline. Since 1997 AFA has opened six additional hubs in the US and abroad to extend our flight service needs. AFA was accepted onto virtualairlines.com in May, 1998 which made AFA a truly global virtual airline by attracting pilots from many different countries. AFA partnered with Pacific Airways in 2001 to form the American Pacific Group to provide extensive flight service to many destinations around the globe, share information resources, and provide a codeshare network.
AFA has a long rich history spanning since 1996 of providing a realistic yet simple approach to virtual aviation flying. AFA continues today as a well known virtual airline in the flight simulation community and will continue to provide a realistic virtual aviation experience.
